Dog brings home human leg - KOIN.com

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Human remains were found on Washington's Nisqually Reservation over the weekend, and the county sheriff's office is requesting the public's help in making an identification.

The Thurston County Sheriff's Office reports that around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, a resident in the area of

13600 Peter Kalama Drive contacted authorities to report the family dog brought home what appeared to be a human leg.

"She drug a human leg into the yard," dog owner Cheryl Flowers told CBS affiliate KIRO-TV. "And ... I called police."

The sheriff's office and the Thurston County Coroner's Office confirmed it as a human leg. A search of the immediate area did not turn up additional remains before it turned dark Saturday.

On Sunday, sheriff's detectives were joined by search-and-rescue personnel including search dogs. Approximately 30 volunteers assisted with a ground searches.

"At approximately 1:00 p.m., a search-and-rescue dog team located what appeared to be additional human remains," the Thurston County Sheriff's Office reported late Sunday. "...At this time details such as age, race, and gender of the remains are unknown."

The coroner's office confirmed the remains to be human, and to include a rib cage, pelvis and skull.
