They’re new in town — and both want to be top dog.
The Westminster Kennel Club unveiled two new breeds Tuesday that will be competing next year at the group’s 139th annual dog show.
In one corner was Falko, a 13-month-old Wirehaired Vizsla, who was so composed he took a nap before he was introduced to the public.
"We are very excited that he'll be part of the show," his owner, 55-year-old Anton Sagh of Montreal, said. “It's been a long process. I'm happy he'll be part of this competition."
The Vizsla’s are Hungarian hunting dogs, a lean, athletic breed with wiry dense coats that protect them from the elements. The sell for about $1,400 apiece.
“He’s hyper by nature,” Sagh said of Falko. “He’s athletic and a hunter.”
But Falko betrayed no nervous jitters and handled his first foray into the spotlight like a champ.

In the other corner was a fluffy white sprite named Luna, who is a Coton de Tulear.
While this breed is from far-off Madagascar, Luna is a New Yorker. And her handler, Adrianne Dering, said the 2-year-old is ready for her close-up.
"They are super fabulous," Dering said of Luna's breed, which can go for about $2,000 to $3,000. "They weren't bred to work. She's pretty chill."
At one point Falko and Luna shared the stage. And Falko even gave Luna a friendly lick to her ears.
“They are friends now,” said David Frei, a Kennel Club spokesman.
They won’t be come February, when they will face off in Madison Square Garden.
With the addition of these two, the Kennel Club now recognizes 192 breeds in the competition.
The competition Luna and Falko face includes a doggy superstar named Mr. America, who is a Leonberger breed and 150 pounds of photogenic fabulousness.
“He’s done a lot of theater and movies,” owner Morgan Avila, 49, of Lynbrook, L.I., confided.
Mr. America’s credits include playing a mansion guard dog in “The Equalizer,” which stars Denzel Washington and Bill Pullman, Avila said.
“They got on the ground and rolled down with the dog,” the proud owner said.
