Newark Mayor Cory Booker met the Pomeranian pup named after him at an event in Philadelphia on Wednesday night.
Philadelphia resident Alex Beaton adopted her dog from a shelter in May and took to Twitter to settle on a name. The idea to name the dog after the Newark mayor got his seal of approval.

After learning that Booker was going to be in Philadelphia on Wednesday, Beaton decided to take Cory Booker the dog to meet his namesake. She waited with the pup outside the entrance to the event Booker was attending until the mayor arrived. The meeting of the Cory Booker duo — with the dog decked out in a Cory Booker U.S. Senate campaign T-shirt — was captured on video.
If Booker wins the race for Senate, Beaton said she plans on getting her dog a tote bag monogrammed with "Senator" on the side.
