EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) – An Evanston woman was devastated after her small dog was attacked and killed earlier this week by a much larger dog.

WBBM Newsradio’s Mike Krauser reports Laurie Widlicka now hopes the dog that killed her pet is tracked down.

Laurie was walking Mia — her 15-pound Powderpuff Chinese Crested dog — around 6 p.m. Monday near Central Street and Jackson Avenue – not far from Ryan Field on the Northwestern University campus – when they crossed paths with a woman walking what appeared to be a Golden Retriever, according to her daughter, Annie.

“The woman inquired about Mia’s gender, then the dog proceeded to lunge forward, and grab Mia, and shake her,” Annie said.

When the bigger dog let go of Mia, the woman walked away.

“My mother was alone with Mia on the street, bleeding,” Annie said.

A veterinarian was unable to save Mia.

“It’s distressing. My mom has had trouble sleeping. It’s been really hard,” Annie said.

Her mother described the woman as heavy-set with gray, curly hair. She believes the dog was about 100 pounds, and said neighbors had never seen the dog or the woman before.
