Stubbs, the honorary feline mayor of an Alaska town, has recovered enough after a dog mauling to be released from the animal hospital.
The 16-year-old cat's owner, Lauri Stec, is making the long drive from Talkeetna to pick him up Monday. That's according to Marco Cortez, a clerk at Nagley's General Store, where Stubbs lives and where Stec is the manager.
Stubbs has been under veterinary care after being mauled by a loose dog in Talkeetna. The quirky community of 900 elected the cat in a write-in campaign 15 years ago.
The Aug. 31 attack left Stubbs with injuries including a punctured lung and a fractured sternum.
Stubbs was already popular nationally and gained even more fans outside of Alaska when news spread about the attack.
