Glory the dog proves that if you get knocked down, it's always worth getting back up again, no matter how hard the struggle. After losing three legs, the dog is walking again, thanks to a revolutionary set of prostheses, according to the Daily Mail U.K.
Four-year-old Glory wasn't always working with one paw. She lost her legs after being attacked in the streets of Romania. Glory's injuries were so severe, doctors had no choice but to amputate three of her legs.
After reading about Glory on an animal charity website, Vanessa Bamkin of Carlisle, Cumbria, England, decided to adopt the dog. Bamkin paid all the necessary expenses for Glory's medical treatment and 2,000-mile trip to her new home.
Once Glory was settled, Bamkin and her family worked on getting the dog walking again. The group started fundraising on the Internet, sharing Glory's story with animal lovers. Many were touched by what Glory had been through. More than $6,000 was donated to get the dog a new set of legs, and now they are finally here.
"She's such a brave little dog. The first time she put them on she was very wobbly, but she did really well and walked a bit," Bamkin said. "She's wearing her new legs three times a day for a few minutes at a time. She seems very happy with them."
Rod Hunt, technical director of OrthoPets Europe, the company that made Glory's limbs, warns that learning to walk again will be a long process, but he is happy to be part of the dog's amazing recovery. "Once she gets used to them, they'll give her a new lease on life," Hunt said.
Because this is the first case of triple dog prostheses in Europe, Glory's progress is being watched closely by researchers. Everyone involved in the project is rooting for the unstoppable canine and hoping, with a few adjustments, she will be back to enjoying long walks once again.
