A service dog reported stolen from outside a St. Paul gas station has been returned and reunited with its owner, police said Wednesday.
A woman had reported to police that she'd tied up her dog named Gummy Bear, a white Shih-poo, outside the SuperAmerica at 399 N. Lexington Parkway on Sunday at about 7:10 p.m. She went in the station, came out about 10 minutes later and the dog was gone, police have said.
Surveillance video showed an older, silver car pulled up next to the dog. A male got out, took the dog off the leash and put the pup the back seat, said Sgt. Paul Paulos, a police spokesman.
The dog's owner told police that Gummy Bear is her service dog, helping her cope with seizures. Gummy Bear had last been seen wearing a green vest.
Paulos said Wednesday that the dog has been found and returned to its owner.
On Tuesday, a woman called police and said she had the dog, Paulos said. Police are not pursuing charges against the woman because she explained that she thought the dog was abandoned when she saw it outside and she said she was going to turn the dog into the Animal Humane Society, said Paulos, adding that she was very apologetic.
