Dog Found Frozen, Belleville Man Charged - CBS Local

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) - A Belleville man is charged with cruelty to animals for leaving his dog chained outside in the sub-zero temperatures.

48-year-old Robert Dickerson, who lives on 23rd street in Belleville, allegedly had a padlock on the dog’s collar after the humane society threatened to take the dog away.

Dickerson’s neighbor Steve Rosen told KMOX he doesn’t think Dickerson ever pet the animal.

“He just called it his junk yard dog. He’s a hoarder and he’s got piles of junk and just had the dog to alert him to anyone’s presence on his property.” said Rosen.

The dog was found frozen to death inside his dog house by local animal rescuers. His food dishes were filled with ice and snow.

A judge set Dickerson’s bail at $5,000.
