A D.C. man is devastated after someone broke into his home yesterday and stole his cream-colored Cockapoo, Margo.

The break-in happened near 14th and D streets in Northeast, near Lincoln Park. Other items were stolen, but the loss of the dog is what Peterson is most worried about.

"She's my family," said Eric Peterson, the burglary victim, visibly moved by the loss of his pet.

"I mean, I don't have any kids, so I wouldn't want to equate my dog with a child, but she's my companion. She's who I come home to."

Margo is a 2 1/2 year old Cockapoo that Peterson has had since she was a puppy. The thieves, who apparently broke in through a basement door, did take other valuables: The TV, two iPads, a laptop.

But they also opened Margo's crate and took the dog. They even took one of her leashes from a hook near the front door.

"This is so scary, because I don't know where she is," Peterson said. "I don't know if she's scared, I don't know if she's being taken care of."

Eric wants his dog back so badly he is offering a reward of $10,000. No questions asked.

"I just want my dog back," Peterson said.

If you have any information about Margo's whereabouts, call the Metropolitan Police Department's tip line at 202-727-9099.
