Two French bulldogs disappeared from an Avondale couple’s home after it was burglarized while the couple was out at a coffee shop this morning.

Whoever broke into the home in the 3100 block of North Sacramento Avenue Avenue smashed open the front door sometime between about 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., said Josh Crews, who is roommates with the couple. When the couple, who work at home, returned from the coffee shop, they found the door open, and the house ransacked.

A burglary with forced entry at the home was reported to police about 11:50 a.m., according to police News Affairs.

When they looked through the house, they found the room where the two dogs, Rue and Pierre, are put when no one’s home was empty, Crews said.

“They took three computers and an iPad and we’re still trying to see all that was stolen,” Crews said. “We’ve been so focused on trying to find the dogs, we haven’t been able to figure that all out.”

Rue, a white French bulldog with tan spotting, is 18 months old and deaf “and she has some severe allergies that she takes medicine for every day, so that’s why we’re concerned,” Crews said. The couple took in the other dog, Pierre, a grey French bulldog with blue eyes, when he could not be cared for by a friend of theirs.

Crews and the couple canvassed the neighborhood, handing out fliers with the dogs’ pictures, but haven’t found anyone yet who saw anything. On Wednesday, they plan to go to area animal shelters, to see if someone has turned in the dogs.

The roommates are “hoping that maybe that they weren’t stolen, that they ran out” after the burglary, instead of being stolen because they can be expensive dogs, Crews said.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263. Anyone who sees either of the dogs is asked to call 224-234-3808.
