A man and woman out for a walk with their dog were struck and killed Thursday by an allegedly intoxicated driver on Chilco Street in Menlo Park.
Menlo Park police Cmdr. Dave Bertini told The Daily News that police were called to the scene west of Constitution Drive just before 7 p.m. Officers arrived to find two people dead in the street and their dog injured, he said.
The couple had been walking eastbound on Chilco, possibly in the bike lane, when a car traveling the same direction plowed into them, Bertini said. The car then jumped the landscaped center divide, clipped a car traveling the other direction and came to a rest against a tree.
None of the four occupants of the vehicle that was struck were injured, Bertini said. Their car suffered minor damage.

Marjorie Reitzell, the driver who hit the man and woman, was still in her car when police arrived, Bertini said. The 54-year-old Redwood City resident appeared to be intoxicated and complained of minor injuries, he added.
Bertini said Reitzell was taken to Stanford Hospital, where officers subsequently placed her under arrest for two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two counts of felony DUI.
The victims were in their 50s and likely died instantly, Bertini said. Additional information was not immediately available and the coroner had not yet arrived on the scene as of press time Thursday.
Bertini was also unable to offer an update on the condition of the dog, but he said the Peninsula Humane Society arrived at the scene quickly and took the animal to its vet for treatment.
The man and woman were killed on a section of Chilco that curves more than 90 degrees and does not have a sidewalk. Bertini said the street, which runs through a light industrial and commercial area, is not particularly dangerous, to his knowledge.
"I also don't know how many people use it to walk their dog," he said as investigators swarmed the scene outside the PGP Corp. building. "I don't know whether that's normal or not."
