LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. -- A search for a dog in Lincolnton that garnered a lot of interest locally on social media has come to a happy end.
Boh the German Shepherd was found safely Thursday night almost 25 miles from home.
Boh is known to comfort graveside mourners at a cemetery near his Lincolnton home. Boh went missing in February, prompting friends of Boh's owners to take to social media.
Brad Beal, Boh's owner, says it was a post on the Facebook page created to reunite Boh with his owners that ultimately led them to the dog.
Beal says he's elated and relieved to have his pup home. He continued that he's reluctant to let Boh go back to the cemetery at this point, but says Boh's frequent visitors are welcome to come by and say hello.
Investigators in Lincoln County were following up on a lead Thursday regarding Boh's disappearance. A woman told authorities she found the dog and took him to a shelter in Greensboro, but the dog jumped out of her vehicle on Highway 73 in Cornelius.
Authorities say a person working at the cemetery reported that they'd seen a woman put the dog in her car and drive off.
Friday morning, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office announced they've charged 36-year-old Dana Jacobs Hartness, of Lincolnton, with one felony count of larceny of a dog and one misdemeanor count of possession of stolen goods.
Hartness has not been arrested; if you've seen her, contact the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
